Solarians

There are some who chose a nomadic lifestyle over the tethers of stations. They fly in glimmering ships, coinciding orbits for councils and trade and using Saturn as a gas station for their thrusters and generators. These men are soldiers, explorers and scientists - delivering vital research data that the many computer banks of Nova Bohemia crunch into possibilities and advancements. Most importantly, however, the solarian mantle is one of responsibility, as they are the primary defenders of the entire species.

Shallowvoid fleets, like the ones fielded by Nova Bohemia or the Syndicate, are relatively inexpensive and built to fight within the orbit of a planet. The Solarians instead employ cutting edge deepvoid fleets with long reach, expensive missiles. When Vladislav levies his subjects, both in orbit and in cloud, a hefty amount of resources is always handed over to the solarian fleet representatives. The treasurymen may groan and complain, but the damage incurred by the Earthen vox nestbelt would be apocalyptic and the solarians are the only ones willing and able to do the job.

Solarian culture is austere and places great importance on self-control and pragmatism. If the orbitals have it tough, the solarians have it immeasurably worse. There is no such thing as a quick resupply as plotting orbits takes weeks or even months, so everything is redundant, steadily rationed and planned and every job is given full effort and attention. It is their meticulous nature that leads them to be quite insufferable in conversation.

Any flaws that the sun-sailors may have, though, are immediately outweighed by the titanic value they provide to humanity by keeping its primary threat at bay. Some royal outposts might have delivery issues, some may even starve or get taken over by pirates when help doesn’t come, but the massive cargo load for the solarian fleet is always there, on the hour, every month.
