Nestbelt Earth

Vox are an unhappy species. Deeply, intensely tribal and clannish, they loathe being surrounded by masses. Unfortunately for them, it is difficult to construct microprocessors from first principles in a group of 100 people. As such, they begrudgingly cooperate in important cases, though eventually the unbearable population density of the rapidly breeding population forces war. The winners get to keep the sector, and the losers get to fly blindly into the stars searching for a new home.

Enter Earth. A colossal, spaceborne grave of humanity’s past trials and tribulations. The shattered remains of the planet are surrounded by tons of moved earth, forming a belt rich in minerals and, for those with a keen eye, human scrap. When a vox exodus ship arrived in the system in 2071, it became a beachhead for the eventual colonisation of the sector. Countless ships zip between the massive chunks of rock, clan ships moving everywhere like swarms of flies.

All vox loathe the situation at hand and secretly wish to be the king of the hill in the end. Circumstance, however, forces them to unite against the relentless Solarian fleets that attack them over and over, culling their numbers and destroying critical facilities. Many vox are born in cramped, filthy conditions on ships that will outlive them by centuries, and many are turned to ash every day by guided strategic missiles and slug rounds.

The deadlock seems to be eternal, though as time goes on one or the other has to buckle and give. The question governing the fate of the system is, then, which one will?
