It is 2104. Humanity is now among the stars. All was going swimmingly until an asteroid hit and obliterated Earth, despite the most valiant efforts to redirect it. Reeling from this hit, humanity lost its umbilical cord. The invention of the mooring device has stabilised the situation - both literally and figuratively, and humanity fled to the clouds. Some tried their luck with terrestrial life on Mars, but the greatest civilisation arose around Saturn - its clouds were found to be rich in a life-sustainingly energetic gas called plasma, alongside asteroid belts teeming with ore.
The electromagnetic storms and unpredictable nature of the Saturnian clouds has created a highly decentralised, outpost centric habitation and lifestyle. Cloud divers work covered by mooring fields that prevent them from being lost to the rolling thunder. When a dispute boils over, marauding armies are levied from outposts and made to wage war against any threat, pirate or upstart. Shuttles are sent to external asteroid fields or decayed outposts among the clouds - with plasma at its disposal, humanity now truly blots out Saturn’s sky.
Crucial to this arrangement, however, are the Orbitals and Solarians. The former are hardy men that live in Saturn’s belts, providing the Cloudmen with much needed ore and materials. The latter are nomadic scouts, researchers and pioneers that breeze through the Solar System and, most importantly, choke the massive vox nest in the Earth debris belt, preventing it from swelling in size and threatening humanity.
Not all is perfect in these trying times. Saturn’s kingdom of Nova Bohemia is straining and buckling under an impending war with a hostile Syndicate. Horrid beings prey on human and vox alike, making outposts go dark. You find yourself in the middle of all of this. Try to survive.
